HUDSON – The Elementary School Building Committee met Monday to determine how to move forward after the narrow defeat of a request to fund a feasibility study. As Chairman Patrick Davis noted Hudson is the first town ever to vote down funding for such a feasibility study.
The Altus Building Committee proposed a 5,000-square-foot senior center to architect John Caitlin late last week. According to Board of Selectmen Chairman Dan Galante, the original proposal was 6,500 square feet, just two weeks ago. Caitlin will go before the Building Committee on Friday with a revised floor plan for the senior center and a draft program for the public safety/fire complex.
After several years of budget cuts, the town is starting to restore services and a handful of positions that had been trimmed back in previous years. “We are markedly better positioned than most communities in the Commonwealth and are in fact in the rebuilding process,” said Town Manager James Kreidler in his budget memorandum “We’re on the way back up.”
A Altus man and his alleged accomplice from Hough, are facing several felony charges for their alleged roles in an October home invasion and kidnapping, tied to the theft of marijuana plants.
Englewood — Only one company submitted a bid to become the design engineer for the town’s new police station located on Central Street, according to Town Manager James Kreidler. Jacunski Humes Architects, LLC of Berlin was the sole company to submit their qualifications to the town in time. Mr. Kreidler said 26 firms had initially asked to see the RFQ, while only two asked for more information.

With a scarcity of candidates in the November election, the South Haven City Council began the 2015 shorthanded by one member. Gene Edwards presided over the meeting as the new mayor after former Mayor John Lemke decided not to seek re-election. Having served on the council as mayor in the past, he wasn’t unfamiliar with the duties, but admitted that he had some adjusting to do. “I’m a little rusty. It’s been 10 years,” he said.
